The City of Victoria requires three communication professionals solely to deal with the Blue Bridge, or Johnson Street Bridge.
If you have a relevant undergraduate degree, and employment experience, the deadline is July 31st to apply.
The City of Victoria is seeking three dynamic communications professionals to fill the roles of Communications Coordinators (one continuous position, two term positions).
The placements refer to two term positions of up to 2 years, and one continuous (?)
The two term positions are an exciting opportunity to keep the public informed and support public involvement activities related to the Johnson Street Bridge Replacement Project.
One wonders what the ‘continuous’ position implies.
This is getting interesting. The City of Victoria is planning a separate website over everything concerned with the Johnson Street Bridge through www.johnsonstreetbridge.com; credible, truthful, informative and complete communication from the City should be a priority, but is it justified to spend however many thousands of dollars to create a dedicated Bridge Website through an outside company AND hire three full time in house employees solely to present the City’s position? What other infrastructure projects have required such largess? What other issues, like Homelessness and Affordable Housing, would be better served with three new full time City employees?
In a speech given by Mayor Dean Fortin on April 28th/2009 to the Salvation Army he rightly re-iterated the number one priority for the City of Victoria, the one issue he and the majority of the City Council were elected for:
Now, there is no question what the number one issue is in our city and the number one issue on my agenda.
We must find homes for those without.
We need to look in our own “backyards” and open our minds and hearts to have supported housing, in all of our neighbourhoods, in every part of the region.
Mayor Fortin will have a difficult task ahead justifying dedicating shrinking city resources to a single infrastructure project, essentially naming the Johnson Street Bridge the number one spending priority, when he was elected on a platform of immediate and long term solutions to homelessness and affordable housing. I do not envy his position.
