Not only is the "Blue Bridge" a valuable heritage site, it is also a very good bridge and could have another 50 or 60m years in it if it is properly maintained. I can honestly say that I have seen very little maintenance done in the last 4 or 5 years. I think maintenance is very important and if they treated a new structure like they are treating this one, it would only have about a 30 year life span. They would do well to hire an honest consultant, one with no political agenda, to tell us the truth. Where I ask will the cars be rerouted to IF the city does go ahead and replace the bridge? Douglas St? What's the difference? Just repair the bridge, it's long overdue!
